How to store furniture in your self storage facility at the Gold Coast

It is important you know how to store your belongings when you are planning on hiring a self storage unit. Here at More Space Gold Coast we believe that providing helpful advice to our customers is what makes us a successful business. In today’s blog post we would like to share with you some tips to help you store your furniture once you hire a storage unit.

Plastic sheets

Buy plastic sheets, like the ones used in construction buildings, and lay it on the ground before you start unloading your furniture. This will help keep the humidity and moisture from the concrete away, allowing your furniture to breathe.

Disassemble

Where possible, disassemble your furniture such as beds and tables. Clean them with soap and water and apply a thin coat of wax, this will help protect it from extreme humidity. All the screws, nuts and bolts should go on a plastic bag. To make things easier for you, just tape them to the bed frame or wooden table.
Don’t forget to cover your headboards and table tops with a quilt! This will prevent denting and scratching.

Clean before storing

Anything that has fabric on it, such as fabric sofas, mattresses, and chairs, should be cleaned. The reason we recommend this is because that’s a very good way to prevent mildew and mold growth.

Once you have cleaned them, use an antibacterial cleanser and warm water solution and give them a final wipe. Once everything is dry, you can take them to the storage room.
