Storage solutions for tricky items
Before putting your storage solutions to use on the Gold Coast/Tweed heads, take a moment to consider what you will be storing. Some objects need a little bit of extra care. So, we have compiled a list of tips about certain items that people do sometimes overlook.
Appliances that use batteries
We suggest that you remove the batteries before placing battery operated items into storage. Batteries do leak on occasion, and this can damage your goods.
Paintings, mirrors and windows
Paintings should be protected with professional packaging products such as bubble wrap and packaging tape. Flat packed into a fitting box is idea. The item should be stored standing upright, not laying down. Same goes for mirrors and windows.
Computers
The original boxes are the ideal option for storing your computer. If this is not available, a fitting box and bubble wrap will do the trick. Be sure to line the box with a buffer layer of foam and/or Styrofoam for extra protection. We also suggest you contact the manufacturer of your computer, for advice and information about how to best store your computer.
Machinery
Machinery such as lawn mowers should be drained of oil and gas. This is to eliminate leakage issues and reduce fire hazards.
Things that should never be stored
There are some items that should simply never be stored. These include, but are by no means limited to:
• Flammable liquids or gases
• Illegal goods
• Stolen goods
• Any substance that poses danger to people or the environment
